Tuesday, March 31st, 2009Two of My Favorite Things
Tuesday, March 24th, 2009Two of my favorite topics — Robert Rich and the phenomenon of the Long Tail (particularly the far skew of the ultra-low end, where I reside) — are featured in this excellent article over at Technium, The Reality of Depending on True Fans.
On that note, I’ll add a reminder also about the quickly approaching Sleep Concert being held in New Orleans on April 11, at which should be all evolved and sentient beings, no matter wherein the tail they fall. Yes, that sentence is in perfect English.
Cheers,
TM
Sommeil: A Concert for Sleep
Friday, March 13th, 2009New Orleans in the springtime: The Platonic alignment of history, mystery, and immersion in the permeating veil of night blooming jasmine; the vapor oil of lilac breath dappling the batted lashes of both lads and lasses; and the slishy precipitation of the cocoa-liquor southern sky licking at every dimension, an elixir of night. Intoxicating by design, New Orleans in the springtime.
If you will be in New Orleans the weekend of April 11, I can’t recommend highly enough finding the time to attend Sommeil: A Concert for Sleep, being held at the Antenna Gallery on Burgundy Street. Detailed information about this phenomenal event can be viewed here, or on the Experimedia Netlabel website.
Tomorrow’s Man acolytes may remember attending TMan-hosted sleep concerts, at which I dj’ed ambient, experimental, soundbed, and soundscape music overnight. These were, however, fundamentally dj sessions and not true concerts. Sommeil, to be performed by composer Tanner Menard, will exist in the purest vein of the concept’s founder, Robert Rich, as Maestro Menard will be synthesizing the aural environment of the marathon event in realtime, creating the soundtrack to the cocoa-liquor elixir of the New Orleans night as his audience dreams.
Sleep Concerts are unmatched as an experience, and I highly recommend attending if you are in the area.
For more information about the Maestro, visit Tanner Menard.
For more on Sleep Concerts, their venerable founder, Robert Rich, and his groundbreaking seven-hour album Somnium, read this article on Robert’s website. (And if you simply must have Somnium — which, trust me, you must — purchase the audio DVD here.)
Cheers,
TMan
