Inferno: Live 2000

Notice: Adult Material

Tomorrow’s Man spoken word live at the Inferno Nightclub, Madison, WI., March 9, 2000.

I performed spoken word at the Inferno a number of times, including performances with two of my favorite bands, Sounds Like Braille and Thought Industry.  Live spoken word led to a starring role in the Inferno’s production run of Eric Bogosian’s “Sex, Drugs, Rock & Roll” in 2004.

Virgin in the Inferno occurred at a transitional time as I was in the process of cross-fading from the angry-young-man poet that drove me for so long into a more savvy, political, mature, and — for lack of a better word — unmitigatingly horny writer.  The passions that had always driven my writing stayed strong, but were transforming from those that were cathartic releases from my ignorances and frustrations of youth into those that could only be described as bury-the-needle-in-the-red libidinal.  (I use this phrase as an audio metaphor, not as a sex metaphor, though the unconscious entendre is exactly what began happening in my writing).

Virgin in the Inferno is dedicated to some of the finest individuals I’ve ever had the joy and honor to know:  Ryel Estes; Kat Davis; Steve Davis; and Brett Holinbeck, my brother of the fifth epiphany.
